Position Summary

• We are looking for a dependable Pharmacy Technician that will process and fill prescriptions. You will undertake other tasks under the direction of a pharmacist to provide excellent customer service and ensure the pharmacy runs smoothly. As a pharmacy technician you must be detail-oriented and reliable since the job has high responsibility. You must possess excellent communication skills as well as aptitude in using computers.

Education and Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent

•Spanish speaking required

• At least 18 years of age

• 1 year Retail/Community Pharmacy experience preferred



Licensure/certification/registration:

• Texas Board of Pharmacy licenses required

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification


Major Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Retrieving, pouring, counting, labeling, and reconstituting prescription medications

• Accessing, inputting, and retrieving information through the Pharmacy’s computer network to maintain accurate records.  Creating accurate prescription labels

• Obtaining refill authorizations from prescribers

• Processing and preparing third-party insurance claims.  Properly processing Medicare claims

• Communicating with physicians, patients, and third-parties, such as insurers

• Maintaining accurate patient/ client profiles

• Maintaining Pharmacy inventory

• Preparing reports related to sales, usage, and inventory

• Complying with established procedures, rules, and regulations

• Answering phones and directing customer calls to the appropriate personnel

• Maintaining and cleaning equipment, work areas, and shelves

• Recordkeeping related to inventories, receipts, purchases, and deliveries

• Understanding confidentiality with respect to patient/ client care; complying with all federal and state laws applicable to the confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and electronic protected health information (EPHI); and following HIPAA guidelines regarding readily identifiable protected health information

• Working as a team and communicating clearly

• Handling customer problems/ concerns in a calm manner and referring them to the pharmacist accordingly

• Notifying the pharmacist of any problems or malfunctions

• Checking refrigerator and freezer temperatures

• Properly processing pseudoephedrine sales

• Promoting teamwork and professional services

• Administering immunization

• Administering Point-of-Care Testing

• Communication Skills: Use and understand verbal and written communication to interact with customers and colleagues.  Actively listen by giving full attention to what others are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.  

• Mathematical Reasoning: The ability to use math to solve a problem, such as calculating days’ supply of a prescription. 

• Problem Resolution: Able to judge when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong; recognizing there is a problem.  Chooses the best course of action when faced with a complex situation with several available options. Able to assess business problems, create and execute an action plan to correct the root cause.
